Ritz-Carlton Kapalua Location: The Ritz-Carlton is located approximately 30 minutes north of Lahaina in the town of Kapalua. The resort was originally planned to be oceanfront, but when they broke ground they discovered a sacred burial site. They revised their plans and the hotel actually sits atop a hill in northwest Maui, overlooking the ocean. While guests must walk down the hill or be driven in golf carts to the beach, the views of the Pacific Ocean and the island of Molokai from the hotel’s vantage point are simply spectacular. Actually, the Ritz-Carlton beach is a section of D.F. Fleming beach which is considered by many to be one of the best beaches on Maui. It, like all other beaches in Hawaii, is public, though a section of the beach is attended carefully by Ritz personnel. Kapalua, known for its world-class golf courses, sits on the northwest sector of Maui. Although surrounded by beautiful scenery, this somewhat remote location is relatively quiet with very limited nightlife or entertainment. Due to its geographical position on the island, Kapalua tends to be windier and more prone to unsettled weather than the more protected neighboring resort areas of Napili and Kaanapali to its south.
