Sheraton Waikiki

Sheraton Waikiki Hotel Reviews

Location:

The Sheraton Waikiki is centrally located right on the beach in downtown Waikiki and is within easy walking distance of everything including great restaurants, attractions and some high quality shopping. With it's own beachfront property, the view from the oceanfront rooms is breathtaking and is an awesome view to wake up to.

The Sheraton Waikiki is right in the very heart of Waikiki Beach and is a favorite beach for young people and families. While there is no beach directly in front of the hotel, guests either use the large ocean-front pool area or the adjoining beach in front of the Royal Hawaiian Hotel. With many stores, restaurants and cultural events within walking distance, the Sheraton Waikiki is in an excellent location for a great vacation. The surf spot known as "Populars or Pops" is located right in front of the Sheraton Waikiki and is an excellent right hand reef break that you can enjoy watching from your lanai (binoculars will be a huge help)

General Information:

Rooms are offered in a variety of sizes, location and view, there are many options when choosing a room at the Sheraton Waikiki. But, I would suggest that if you are not booking at least an ocean view room, try another hotel. The ocean view and ocean front rooms are AWESOME! The city and mountain views are just not worth the price to stay in this hotel. For a similar amount of money, you can book a lessor hotel with an ocean view, which would be much more worth the money.

A Partial View From an Ocean Front Room

While the Sheraton Waikiki doesn't have its own beach, it does have an excellent swimming pool area that overlooks the surf. The white screen that you see at the head of the pool on the ocean is actually a movie screen where first run movies are played. One can take up residence in a lounge chair, order a drink from the Sand Bar and emjoy a movie at night. The is a great feature for families.

In addition to the main pool, the Sheraton Waikiki offers a second pool that is ideal for families and children.

The Sheraton Waikiki Kid's Pool

Right by the main pool is the Sand Bar. While drinks are served in plastic glasses, they are reasonably priced. The Sand Bar is a very enjoyable bar to simply relax at during the day and into the evening hours.

Arriving at the Sheraton Waikiki is a real treat. After traversing Kalakua Avenue you turn right through the Royal Hawaiian Shopping Center and are then deposited at the front entrance to the Sheraton Waikiki

Entrance to the Sheraton Waikiki

After entering the hotel you see the registration desk. I would have to say that Sheraton has done an ideal job of training their front desk personnel. They are friendly and simply exude the Aloha spirit. You will feel immediately at home and glad that you are checking in.

The Registration Desk

Once you have checked into the hotel, you will make your 2way to the elevator bank.

The Sheraton Waikiki Elevator Bank

Note that there are 12 different elevators and that one comes along quite quickly. Once you board your elevator, select your floor and proceed to your room. But wait a minute. Sheraton has done a completely lousy job at this point of your vacation. When you get off the elevator, there are no clear signs as to where your room is located. To make matters worse, The building is designed such that understanding your position within the hotel itself is next to impossible. Here is a hint. The first time you get off the elevator, look for a floor plan at one end of the elevator bank, or the other. Make your way to the map and then try to understand where you room is located. Once you have that figured out, then the rest of your stay should be uneventful. To get to the beach, simply go to the lobby level and head out the the pool and turn left. A trail will take you be the children's pool and onto the trail that takes you to the beach in front of the Royal Hawaiian Hotel (also used by the Sheraton Waikiki.

The Beach that the Sheraton Waikiki Uses

There are numerous shops located within the Sheraton Waikiki and one could be satisfied simply shopping here without ever leaving the hotel (well not quite) There is an excellent Reyn Spooner shop in the Sheraton Waikiki. For those that do not know, Reyn Spooners are the aloha shirt choice of the locals. While other shirts may look the same, Reyn Spooners are recognized by locals in a heart beat.

There are some excellent restaurants in the Sheraton Waikiki too. Right in the lobby is Rum Fire an excellent bar and restaurant with ocean front dining.

The Bar in Rum Fire

Another excellent restaurant for breakfast, lunch and dinner is the Ocean Terrace. This ocean front restaurant is both inside and on a lanai making dining here a wonderful experience.

Sheraton Waikiki's Ocean Terrace Restaurant

The Ocean Terraqce Restaurant is somewhat expensive for what you get and some of the other numerous restaurants in Waikiki may be better values. But it is convenient. If you are just looking for something in the hotel that is not going to cost a lot and is convenient, look for Ingredients. This buffet/market style restaurant is excellent for a light bite to eat.

All in all, the Sheraton Waikiki is an excellent choice for those wanting to be centrally located with a fabulous ocean view. The shopping and dinning is simply an added bonus.
